weighing in and moving on!
Wheee!! It’s time for a new challenge over at the Sisterhood! And this one was custom-designed for me, I swear it! It’s all about changing your mindset, your attitude, your inner thoughts and feelings about yourself, your worth, and your journey. And when you change these things, outward change will follow. I changed my tag-line just special for the new challenge. Usually I quote Shakespeare: for the next seven weeks I’m giving a nod to Thoreau, who came up with this doozy:
Things do not change; we change.
And it’s so true. So simple, yet so astute. I actually think he meant this in a more melancholy, philosophical way, but it works for me as a motivational mantra as well. It’s not my weight that needs to change. It’s not the circumstances conspiring against me to keep me in my rut. It’s not my kids, my husband, the weather. It’s me. And it’s up to me. If I want change (and I do), then I need to change.
Weigh in: I’m up one pound from last week. Considering that all I’ve done exercise-wise all week (until today) was to walk from the computer, to the couch, to the kitchen, and considering that my eating has been less than stellar, I’ll take it! Today I started anew, with a 3.65 mile walk in 64 minutes. With a bum knee. I’m ready to re-think my shrink!
As per Christy O.’s orders:
- Sort out your food plan. I’m working on this. My husband just had his yearly physical, and some of his numbers marked him as being pre-diabetic. So I’ve picked up Bob Green’s Best Life Guide to Managing Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes. And I’m treating myself as if I’m pre-diabetic as well. Because I doubt my numbers are far off as well. I expect good things from this — it will take a couple weeks to become familiar with the numbers, carb counts, and get my head around the science, but I think in the end this will work well for us. One big point that should have the weight falling off me regardless of the rest of the diet? No alcohol. We have one bottle of wine left in the house, either for tonight or New Year’s, and then no more for at least two months.
- Get your workouts in order and find an event. I’ve got that one covered all ready! I’ve found an event, and it’s a whopper! Ladies, I’m power walking in the Edinburgh 2010 Moonwalk on June 19th!! More about that awesomeness in the days and weeks to come, but basically I’m going to be power walking a marathon, in the middle of the night, in an awesomely decorated bra, to benefit breast cancer research. In the interim, to coincide with the end of this seven week challenge, I’m going to walk the 12km Marche du Mouligneau on February 14th. Today I officially started my training.
- Join, join, join! I don’t think I could go a day, sanely, without checking in on all of you! I’m so looking forward to all the mini-challenges. This has been an up and down, yo-yo kind of year for me. I’m pretty sure I’m ringing the year out at the same weight I rang it in. But the one thing I’ll take from 2009 into the New Year is the incredibly awesome support group I’ve found. You all are my rock!!
